Meet and Greet Disaster

My wife and I spent the big $$$ for the Meet and Greet in Boise, Idaho. It felt like a shake down by Pablo and his crew. Give us your money, no autographs, no handshakes, don't talk, you have 3 seconds to stand behind the band members while we snap a photo and rush you out the back door. I was disgusted by the whole experience after enjoying a wonderful show in the front row then to be treated like that. On top of that, we witnessed one of the newbie crew members kick John Bolin out of the clubhouse along with his wife and family because they didn't have "Diamond" passes - what a crock. I felt bad for John after making all of Billy's guitars for almost 30 years to be treated like that. I'm sure if Billy had witnessed that, a few crew members would be looking for work. Billy, Dusty and Frank need to know that this is how THEIR BIGGEST fans are feeling after the meet and greet. Pablo spent 5 minutes blowing his own horn about how long he had been their tour manager and how his policies, even though the band doesn't like them, are being supported. Save your money for good tickets and don't waste your time on Pablo and the meet and greet until Billy and the boys come out and make a statement about how they are going to do things different. At this point I would label it as a classless money grab. I don't even want the photo, because it doesn't mean anything to me after how we were treated. What means something to me, being a ZZTop fan since I was 12, is having the opportunity to look them in the eye, shake their hand and thank them for the inspiration they have provided to my own playing and the countless hours of enjoyment their music has provided to my soul.

There were maybe 20 couples who were part of the group that paid alot of money to meet the band. So you give each couple 30 seconds of your "precious" time. Maybe 15-20 minutes for the whole group, personally sign 1 thing for each person who paid you very handsomely, smile for the camera and have a nice day - everybody happy. I drove 4 hours each direction, paid for a hotel, paid for 48 hours of babysitting and closed my motor shop for 2 days because I was going to meet the band. Buyer Beware.

Hey Jody! - we were at St Paul too - Loved the concert but it's totally insane they would treat us like that.....

Same thing happened in St. Paul a few days ago. Bought the VIP tickets as a surprise birthday gift for my boyfriend. Spent $300 for two minutes with the guys. There was no q&a session, just a quick picture and were asked to step aside. Very disappointed and sad by it all. You can not tell me the guys do not know about this. Look how many people have bitched about it. Maybe they need to be reminded that they have been successful for forty years because of their fans. Also, anyone else get jipped into buying extra tickets because the vip package said tickets were not included. Who do I contact for that?? The only positive to this situation is the guys can still rock.

I hear ya!.....Same experience for our group - don't shake hands, no autographs, no q & A session, one pic, don't touch them and it's adios - That is what we get for $150.00???.....It's out right Fraud!

I wish I found and read all of this before paying for vip tickets. I was excited, had to sell my drums to pay. They won't sign anything. What the F**K!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Damn! I've been looking over the tour dates to pick one for my wife and I to attend. Haven't seen them live in years so yes, I was planning to buy the meet and greet. Can't believe the guys would let that **** go on.

I too attended the show in Amarillo last October and have great news. I finally received both my autographed lithographs two weeks ago...and the signatures were real and authentic! I took my mom ( yes mom digs ZZ Top) and we had front row seats which was awesome! Just so happens that La Futura on vinyl was released on Tuesday of that exact week of the show so I bought 2 copies and brought to the show hoping for the boys to sign. Well, when I walked up for the photo op, Billy got excited and said "Oooh you got the Vinyl". Of course I got NO SIGNATURES on it. Damn! I did ask Billy what the status of his solo album was (I'd read he was working on one) and he looked surprised. Billy paused and pointed to my vinyl and said "There it is." Haha

Same treatment in Baltimore - May 19, 2013. Three hour drive each way. A fan should never be treated this way. There were a lot of extra "vips" that didn't have a badge, so I'm sure they didn't pay the extra $$ the rest of us had to pay. The question and answer session was hurried, interrupted and cut short by their handler-----he actually answered a fan's question - Can you believe that? What made it worse - the vip coordinator told us they didn't have a show the next night - so you'd think there would be a couple extra minutes for an autograph or two. Although the photo op was okay, I am very regretful I paid extra for that type of treatment.

I WILL SAY DUSTY WAS FRIENDLY AND LISTENED WHEN I WAS TELLLING HIM ABOUT HOW MANY TIMES I HAD WALKED HIM AND THE GUYS UP ON STAGE WITH A FLASHLITE BACK WHEN THE WHAREHOUSE WAS HAPPENING BUT REALLY CANT GET PAST HIM NOT WANTING TO SIGN MY BOOK BECAUSE IT WAS BILLY'S ? GREAT SHOW, BILLY SEEMS TO STILL HAVE A GOOD TIME PLAYING AND REALLY MADE THE SHOW WITH HIS COMMENTS AND CUTTING UP ON STAGE. I DID INDEED GET SHIT ON BY THAT GUY THEY PAY TO HANDLE THERE FANS, I ONLY WANTED WHAT I HAD COME OVER 400 MILES AND SPENT HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS TO GET. IF HE WOULD HAVE SPENT 1/100th OF THE ENERGY HE USED TO BLOW ME OFF AND MAKE EXCUSES HE COULD HAVE HAD MY BOOK SIGNED.

I WAS IN BOLOXI FOR THE SHOW. RODE 420 MILES ON MY BIKE AND PAID THE PRICE TO BE ABLE TO MEET AND GREET THE ZZ TOP BAND BUT AFTER WAITING IN LINE WHILE 18-20 OTHERS HAD THERE PICTURE TAKEN I WAS CUT OFF BY THE LONG DARK HAIRED DUDE THAT MUST HAVE BEEN THE BANDS ROAD BOSS OR WHATEVER BECAUSE THE PHOTO GUY THOUGHT HE WAS DONE AND LONG HAIR HUSTLED THE BAND THRU A DOOR A FEW FEET AWAY AND AFTER HANGING OUT AND EVEN SHAKING HANDS WITH DUSTY WHEN HE SHOWED UP OUTSIDE THE DOOR I HAD WORKED WITH BEAVER PRODUCTIONS AT THE WHAREHOUSE IN NEW ORLEANS IN THE 70'S AND WAS TELLING HIM HOW I HAD BEEN INVOLVED WITH 38 OF THERE SHOWS IN THE PAST WHEN I ASK DUSTY TO SIGN MY ROCK AND ROLL GEARHEAD BOOK HE JUST LOOKED UP AT ME A SAID " THATS BILLYS BOOK" AND WENT BACK THRU THE DOOR. I SAW BILLY INSIDE MAYBE 15 FEET AWAY AND WHEN I HELD UP MY BOOK AND PEN HE GAVE ME A WAIT ONE SECOND SIGN WITH HIS HAND AND THEN THE DOOR CLOSED. TO MAKE A LONG SAD STORY SHORT. I RODE 420 MILES AND PAID WHAT ALOT OF PEOPLE MAKE FOR A HARD WEEKS WORK TO MEET THE XX TOP BAND AND MAYBE HAVE MINUTE TO SHARE A MEMORY FROM YEARS BACK AT THE WHAREHOUSE AND GET MY BOOK SIGNED AND ONLY GOT LET DOWN AND TURNED DOWN AND BUMMED OUT BY THE BAND I HAD RESPECTED AND FOLLOWED OVER 40 YEARS.
